HOME-BASED ABA SERVICES FOR EVERYONE

Blue Arc offers home-based, contemporary ABA therapy to families in the Greater Richmond area.

We specialize in treating mild to severe problem behavior by teaching functional communication, tolerance, cooperation, and coping skills using Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT).

This means that we do not need to evoke dangerous behavior to treat it, making for “happy, relaxed, and engaged” learners and family-friendly services from the comfort of your home!

Blue Arc’s home-based services are directed and led by a passionate team of behavior analysts, each of whom are certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board and licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine.

You may hear them referred to as your BCBA or LBA. Each of our clients receives an individualized treatment plan designed and managed by one of our BCBAs and implemented by one of our board-certified Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs).

“But let us not wait any longer to get on the right side of history.”

- Dr. Gregory Hanley

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is considered the Gold Standard for the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders. It can also produce positive behavior change for children and individuals with ADHD, OCD, developmental delays, and other intellectual disorders that impact communication, social behavior, and skills of independence or result in challenging behaviors.

However, some of the common practices used in traditional ABA therapy have caused families of individuals with autism to lose hope in ABA as a moral, trustworthy, and reliable treatment option. And rightfully so.

Today’s ABA is a contemporary and compassionate version of Applied Behavior Analysis that starts with trust and understanding. We seek not to control an individual who is engaging in challenging behavior, nor coerce positive behavior from an individual, but rather we listen, learn, guide, and coach. And because it is not enough to merely redirect and manage, we instead find ways to understand, share, and shape. Safety, rapport, and the televisability of what we do is our utmost priority.

“The themes of I see you, I hear you, I understand you, and I am here for you persist throughout the entire process.”

- Dr. Gregory Hanley

Today’s ABA is the cornerstone of our practice. There are very few limits to what we will do to ensure one feels heard and seen.

We invest ourselves in discovering everything an individual loves and using what an individual chooses to share with us to create a safe space where it is, dare I say, easy to be happy, relaxed, and engaged. By teaching from joy, we empower each individual to reach their greatest potential on their own terms.

Once we understand what an individual loves about the world around them, we use Skill Based Treatment (SBT) to facilitate the functional communication, tolerance, coping and cooperation skills that are foundational to all learning opportunities found in the social atmosphere around us.

“The path to a joyous lifestyle for families with autistic persons is paved with skills. The big pavers are play/leisure skills, communication, toleration, and cooperation.”

With the foundational skills required for a joyous life firmly established, we begin to use Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI), Natural Environment Teaching (NET), and Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) to strengthen other skills of independence social-communication skills which help individuals to be successful in their day-to-day life experiences and the development of meaningful relationships with family, friends, and peers.
